It is that time again – time to vote in the Gazettes Annual Best of Contest. With your support and your vote, STARGAZERS THEATRE AND EVENT CENTER has won GOLD in the BEST LIVE MUSIC VENUE category in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

We would LOVE to be voted the GOLD again in 2012!

Our mission statement is “To Bring Great Entertainment to Great Audiences and to be a Warm and Welcoming Gathering Place for the Community” and we work every day to do just that.

Featuring National, Regional and local acts, we have had so much fun this past year and hope that you have too –from wonderful classic rock bands to the Americana style of the Haunted Windchimes, from fun tribute shows like Zoso, the Led Zepplin Tribute Band and John Denver tribute artist, Ted Vigil, to the high energy Jazz of Dotsero, smooth jazz of Tony Exum and Big Band Jazz of Thin Air Jazz. Blues, Celtic, Americana,  R & B, Motown, Jazz, Classic Rock Dance Parties – together we have enjoyed them all…..please vote for us as Best Live Music Venue!

The Freethinkers of Colorado Springs, Peak Dems and The Liberal Store sponsor an evening of musical entertainment and networking just for progressives and liberals! To get progressives and liberals energized and enthusiastic for the work we have ahead of us. We will be in for a treat as satirist songwriter Roy Zimmerman will perform.

Roy Zimmerman sings satirical songs – original songs about class warfare, creationism, same-sex marriage, guns, marijuana, abstinence, Republicans (a lot of songs about Republicans), ignorance, war and greed.  There’s a decidedly Lefty slant to his lyrics. “We used to have a name for Right Wing satire,” he says. “We called it ‘cruelty.’” Roy and his wife collaborator are in the midst of a 50 state tour to get progressives up off the couch and back into action. It is a good time to bring progressives together for a bit of fun and networking.

Although we don’t all agree on everything there are many things that we do all agree on, the basic American values of fairness, equality, and shared sacrifice. Please join with us. Tickets are available through The Liberal Store

With Jim Adam and his band playing some great music that borders on too much fun,

this Good Time Blues Bash will have everyone celebrating Jim’s birthday with glee.

When the seven-member Jim Adam Blues Band is in the house, “get ready for some down-home funky-style Blues Soup.” These cats flat get down. Joining Jim in the kitchen is Andy Baldwin–”the reverend of Funk”–on drums. He stirs the soup and makes it funky style. John Stilwagen’s expertise on the keys adds a whole lot a flavor (tabasco sauce, baby). Verolen Kersey holds up the bottom providing for a thick base (Bass) that gives the simply amazing Frank Perez (the Boston Bluesman) just the right start for adding all kinds of spicy licks on lead guitar.

This past year has been an especially good one for Big Jim with all the more reason for celebration—he and John Stilwagen were 2011 International Blues Challenge Finalists. Come join the party!

 Grant Sabin is a unique, talented blues prodigy–steeped in traditional blueswell beyond his years.

The multi-instrumentalist’s babyface contradicts both his gruff voice and his repertoire, which includes not only his own modern work, but tributes to Son House and Jimi Hendrix as well. Sabin’s musical delivery serves as a strong reminder that playing from the heart is clearly an innate process for some folks. With an eclectic approach to the blues/folk/rock spectrum that is honest and convincing, Grant is one of those rare souls who “just has it.”

The Flumps explore the soundscapes of rock and roll; however, they also have an affinity for the long-running tradition of folk music–the music of the people. Every month Starburn showcases some of the best regional rock and blues musicians. Plus, Starburn plays covers of music from the ‘60s and ‘70s by rock greats like The Doors, Cream, Santana, and Vanilla Fudge, and more. Starburn’s members are music scene veterans Dale Creel and Jack Baker (formerly of the Channel Cats), along with LeRoi Hammond and Russ Kleiner (of The Nostalgics).

Special guests this month will be Tripping Griswolds and Robert Beard and Fright. Tripping Griswolds is a variety dance band that plays the best music from seven decades. The band members take great pride in their harmony-centered music encased in classic rock and fun dance tunes.

After 20 years in the music biz, self-described “Little Folksinger” Ani DiFranco is still technically little, although her influence on fellow musicians, activists, and indie-minded people the world over has been huge. She still proudly identifies as a folksinger, too, but her understanding of that term has always been far more expansive than a bin at the record store or a category on iTunes, with ample room for soul, funk, jazz, electronic music, spoken word, and a marching band or two. Over the course of more than 20 albums, including the live double CD Living in Clip (1997) and the two-disc career retrospective Canon (2007), as well as the latest one, ¿Which Side are You On? (2012), Ani has never stopped evolving, experimenting, testing the limits of what can be said and sung. Her lifelong tribe of co-conspirators includes everyone from Pete Seeger and the late Utah Phillips to a new generation of twentysomething singer-songwriters who grew up with her songs and shows — and then there’s the motley crew of folks like Prince, Maceo Parker, Andrew Bird, Dr. John, Arto Lindsay, Bruce Springsteen, Chuck D, the Buffalo Philharmonic, Gillian Welch, Cyndi Lauper, and even Burmese activist and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, with whom she has crossed paths in a myriad of ways. The artistically engaging Gregory Alan Isakov will open for Ani. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Gregory Alan Isakov’s song-craft lends to the deepest lyrical masterpieces. With hints of his influences, Leonard Cohen, Iron and Wine, Gregory Alan Isakov has been described as “strong, subtle, a lyrical genius” and has shared the stage with touring artists such as Calexico, Mumford & Sons, Fiona Apple, DeVotchka, and Brandi Carlile. He has performed throughout the United States and Europe and appeared at numerous music festivals such as South By Southwest, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. Stargazers’ monthly Open Mic night is hosted by Lobo and Sheryl Loggins, who will also entertain with a variety of music ranging from blues and classic rock to country and originals.

From the heart of East Texas, Lobo has an extensive background in all types of music. As a guitarist, Lobo has worked with many well-known musicians including Katie Webster, Percy Sledge, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, and many more. Writing, playing, entertaining, and singing is what Lobo is best at; he says it’s a passion … those who listen to him know it’s true.

When Sheryl sings, she’s been known to make folks tear up with a heart-felt ballad, or have them dancing with an up-tempo or gutsy blues request.  Sheryl started singing with Lobo’s blues band in 2001; after the band broke up, the two became one of Colorado Springs’ favorite duos.  After moving to TN, they won the hearts of music enthusiasts there as well, who enjoyed the vocal harmonies and funny antics that made up their shows. Now they are back in Colorado and the magic of their music can be seen and enjoyed in Colorado Springs.

Suga Bear and the Showtime Band is one of the hottest high-energy live bands based out of Colorado Springs. The seven-member group is composed of diverse musicians who help define fun and excitement, including the vocal trio of Suga Bear, Lady Shay, and Troy–who also plays congas along with musicians Aundre Ai (drums), Scott Haffley (bass), JC (guitar), and Joe Kaiser (keyboards). The band’s distinctive style and raw energy will keep you dancing, shaking, and moving from start to finish.

Show Time Band is always exciting on stage with their unmistakable sound and electrifying showmanship, combining all the great sound of R&B, funk, Motown, and top 40 hits to create their own flow of “hot dance music.” Don’t take our word for it … “Come feel the vibe!”
